The 13 biggest homes for sale in Austin right now

10,000 square feet or go home

While the movement toward small, even tiny, homes seems to be getting all the press these days (even here at Curbed Austin), the truth is that McMansions (or just mansions) are far from dead. Let’s take a look at the biggest ones for sale this month, courtesy of real estate analytics website NeighborhoodX, shall we?

Of the 13 largest homes, none is under 11,000 square feet, and they range in asking price from $14.9 million to $7.6 million.

↑ Topping the list is this palatial 20,078-square-foot home in the West Rim area on the near Lake Travis. It’s asking $14.9 million and has been on the market for well over a year.

↑ Next up (or down), at 16,406 square feet, is this home in the gated Costa Bella community just east of the northern end of Lake Travis. It has nine bedrooms, 10 and a half bathrooms, and a full-sized gym, wine cellar, and theater. It’s on the market for $9.75 million.

↑ Third place goes to a 13,731-square-foot Steiner Ranch manse asking $7.75 million. With its puny five bedrooms and six bathrooms (but also four partial bathrooms!), it seems to focus its appeal on what’s outside: manicured grounds & gardens, a resort-style pool, a sports court, a double boat dock with party deck, and 600 feet of Lake Austin waterfront lined with massive shade trees.

↑ Coming up fifth is this 13,600-square foot, chateau-style house with seven en suite bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and its own lakeside boat dock. It’s asking $8 million.

↑ Place six goes to this hilltop home in the Hills of Barton Creek. At 13,329 square feet, it has six bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Formerly priced $5.95 million, it will now be auctioned without reserve on August 30.

↑ Seventh on the list is this seven-acre estate with a 13,217-square-foot home that has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Located in Comanche Trail Estates near the Marshall Ford area of Lake Travis, it is on the market for $9.9 million.

↑ A six-acre Lake Austin estate is eighth on the list, with 12,702 square feet, five bedrooms, six and a half bathrooms, and 400 feet of water frontage. The Steiner Ranch home is on the market for $6.2 million.

↑ The ninth largest home on the list is in a gated community on the upper tip of Westlake. The formal, European-style house measures 12,052 square feet and has six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Located on 1.8 wooded acres, it’s asking $5.15 million.

↑ A five-acre lot is the featured aspect of this Barton Creek estate, placing 10th on the list. The 11,871-square-foot house has seven bedrooms and eight and a half bathrooms and is asking $1.99 million.

↑ This unapologetically Tuscan home above the Barton Creek Highlands takes place 11. Measuring 11,581 square feet, it has seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. It’s located on approximately two acres and is on the market for $3.29 million (plus monthly homeowners association fees).

↑ The first contemporary on the list enters at number 11. Located in the Toro Canyon area, the 11,251-square-foot home was completed last year and has six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, and three living areas. It’s on the market for $5.89 million.

↑ The least-big giant home on the list is a seven-bedroom, eight-and-a-half bathroom measuring 11,012 square feet. Adjacent to the Austin Country Club, it’s asking $7.6 million.
