There is an insane number of contradictory iPhone rumours online right now, but all seem to settle on the idea that Apple's September 2018 event will see three new iPhones.

What those phones are going to be called is more confusing than ever, given that in 2017 we saw the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X (pronounced 'ten') - so are we skipping 9 and going straight on to 11, are we going back to 'S' updates, or are we dropping the numbers altogether? Please don't call it 'New iPhone', Apple.

Whatever the eventual names, highlights of the September launch event will be two OLED iPhones that we suspect will be updates to the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, now brought closer into line with the iPhone X with a notch display and performance boost. We're referring to these as the iPhone 9 and 9 Plus (which may in fact be the iPhone 8S and 8S Plus), and you can read more about them in our guide to iPhone 2018 rumours.

The third new iPhone is tipped to be an LCD model, which suggests it will be a budget model - though not necessarily any smaller, just lacking a few features. A follow-up to the immensely popular iPhone SE has been on the cards for a while now, but fans might not be so keen if the eventual iPhone SE 2 turns out to be a cutdown iPhone X rather than following the compact 4in form factor they were hoping for.
